“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea.” -Karen Blixen-

I began this year with a new series of seascapes. The collection, Time and Tide, is inspired by my love of being at the ocean and the calming effect created by the rhythm of the tide, different moment by moment, full of movement and life.

I have often painted seascapes, usually at this time of year, but this time I wanted to elevate the theme into abstraction. I chose to do that through process.

I began with sketches. Some done in acrylic and others mined from my many watercolor sketches done while at the beach sitting right there in the sand or on the deck of a beach cottage overlooking the waves.

When translating those sketches to canvas I experimented with paint application to take full advantage of all the wonderful effects that can be achieved with acrylic paint. Many layers with transparency, splatters, drips, expressive marks, and puddles of color came together to show the texture and movement of the tide.

With nine paintings completed the Time and Tide collection is continuing to grow as it is not a process or subject I am ready to let go of just yet. If you sign up for “New Art Alerts” on my website if you will be notified when new paintings are available.

You can visit the Time And Tide collection here on my website.

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my studio!

Until next time...

Thank you for reading!

Stay safe and well and creative!
